만약에 IF

IF you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you, 
만약에 모든 사람이 이성을 잃고 너를 비난해도 정신을 차릴 수 있다면, 

IF you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too;
만약에 모든 사람이 너를 의심하더라도 스스로를 믿고 그들의 의심을 이해하고 수용할 수 있다면,  

 

IF you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies
만약에 네가 기다리되 지치지 않을 수 있다면,  거짓말에 거짓말로 대응하지 않는다면, 

Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
미움 받더라도 증오하지 않고, 착한 척하지 않고, 잘난 척 않는다면, 

 

IF you can dream and not make dreams your master;
만약에 네가 꿈을 가지더라도 꿈에 얶매이지 않는다면, 

IF you can think and not make thoughts your aim
만약에 네가 목표한 것, 그 너머를 노릴 수 있다면, 

 

IF you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same;
만약에 네가 성공과 실패를 겪더라도 그 둘의 본질이 같다는 것을 받아들일 수 있다면, 

IF you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by knaves to ake a trap for fools,
만약에 네가 말한 진실이 왜곡되어 악인이 어리석은 자를 속이는 것을 견딜 수 있다면, 

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build'em up with worn out tools:
혹은 일생을 바쳐 이루어 낸 것이 무너져도, 낡은 연장으로 다시 일으켜 세울 수 있다면, 

 

IF you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
만약에 너의 모든 업적을 한 번의 기회에 걸었을 때 

And loss and start again at your beginnings And never breathe a word about your loss;
다 잃더라도 처음부터 다시 시작할 수 있다면, 그러면서도 네가 잃은 것에 대해 침묵할 수 있다면, 

IF you can force your heart and nerve and sinew To serve your turn long after they are gone, 
만약에 네가 죽을 힘을 다한 뒤에도 심장과 힘줄, 신경이 움직이도록 다그칠 수 있다면, 

And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them "Hold on!"
그리고 아무것도 남지 않아도 "버티자" 라고 말하며 견뎌낼 수 있다면, 

 

IF you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings nor lose the common touch, 
만약에 네가 대중과 이야기하면서도 고결함을 지킬 수 있고, 왕족과 함께 걸으면서도 친근함을 잃지 않을 수 있다면, 

IF you neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, IF all men count with you, but none too much,
만약에 적이나 친구가 너를 해치지 못하게 하고, 모든 사람을 존중하되, 누구든 지나치게 의지하지 않는다면, 

IF you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty second's worth of distance run,
만약에 네가 한 치의 여유도 없는 1분의 시간을 60초의 전력질주로 채울 수 있다면 

Your is the Earth and everything that's in it,  And which is more -you'll be a Man, my son
